David has over 7 years of experience as a social entrepreneur. He has worked in developing countries addressing the issues of food, water, and energy infrastructure. In 2008, he founded a non-profit focused on developing agricultural co-ops in Nepal that developed infrastructure and sustainable farming initiatives for remote mountainous villages in that country. In many cases, the focus projects were the first sources of revenue from outside the village and provided new opportunities for local employment for many of these communities. In 2012 he founded Compostwheels, an urban residential and commercial composting company in Atlanta, GA. As a business Compostwheels has grown over 75% year over year, is profitable and has been recognized by CNN Headline News and other media outlets for its innovative approach to building awareness and interest in the need and use for compost in urban environments. Most recently David spearheaded the merger of his company with another compost company called CompostNow. As a merged entity, David and the team are planning on scaling the company across the southeast and nationally. A Wisconsin native, David received his BFA in Interior Architecture for Sustainability from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, GA. He serves as a social enterprise mentor in Emory Universities StartMe accelerator program. His goal is to apply design thinking and biological principles to replicate natural systems in the scaling of CompostNow. He marvels at the thought of helping others re-establish their connection to the earth and the food they consume through composting.
