Charles is a 2018 Byron Fellow and Dec. 2018 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University in Asheville, North Carolina with a Master’s of Sustainability Studies. During his Master’s program, he worked at the Biltmore Estate Winery where he applied sustainability concepts to the wine industry by exploring the feasibility of implementing wine-on-tap as a more sustainable alternative to glass bottles. Prior to beginning his graduate studies, Charles obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Clemson University, with a minor in Spanish language studies. At Clemson, Charles served as Co-President of the Clemson Eco-Rep Group, organizing educational campaigns and campus-wide events focused on recycling, food waste, energy efficiency and water conservation. He is fluent in Spanish and has studied and/or lived for short periods in Costa Rica, Ecuador and Spain. Charles has a broad interest in the intersections of sustainability and business and is currently searching for ways to professionally enter the sustainability field.
