Nicholas Okumu (he/him) — Nairobi, Kenya — is an orthopedic oncologist, educator, and health systems leader working to strengthen cancer care and surgical systems in Kenya. One of only two orthopedic oncologists serving the country, he leads the orthopedic oncology unit at Kenyatta National Hospital and lectures at the University of Nairobi, where he also supervises resident research. Nicholas has founded and scaled multiple health ventures and leads regional initiatives focused on early cancer detection, workforce training, and equitable access to care, including through Operation Smile. Across his work, he is committed to building durable systems that give patients in low-resource settings a fair chance at survival—and to developing leadership that can sustain both people and institutions over the long term.
